Homemade Solar Cells: A How To

Homemade Solar Cells: A How To

Homemade solar cells are an integral part of any solar energy system. The cells (which make up an array) absorb sunlight and convert the sunlight into electricity through the Ph Meter and some table salt.

To first make a cell, cut the copper flashings into 4x4 inch squares. Then take one piece of copper flashing and turn on your stove or electric burner on high. Once the burner gets really hot, cook the copper flashing on top of it for twenty to thirty minutes until it turns all black. Leave the copper to cool down.

Once the copper flashing is burned it produces a black coating called cupric oxide, which usually falls off on its own, revealing a red layer of cuprous oxide underneath. You can also gently remove more of the cupric oxide layers by holding the sheet under running water. Scrub slowly so that you don't disturb any of the red or rusty cuprous oxide layers, as this is the layer that is Ph Meter and connect one alligator clip on to its positive terminal and to the unburned copper flashing. Do the same for the burned copper flashing, this time using the negative terminal of the micro-amMeter. Now take the jar outside and let it stand under the sunlight. The micro-amMeter will give you a reading of the energy output. You can now explore the photovoltaic properties of your newly created solar cell.

Aside from this method, you can also make homemade solar cells using Titatium Dioxide. All in all, you get the same homemade solar cells that work to harness energy from the sun.

Learning to make homemade solar cells can be fun, but a single solar cell - or even a number of them - cannot work to harness solar energy for the home as long as it is not correctly wired or installed. Make sure that you learn how to correctly create, assemble and install your own solar panels so that you can effectively make use the homemade solar cells to generate energy for your home.

The Earth4Energy Guide is an excellent eBook that teaches you the basics of making your own solar panels cells and assembling them to form panels from scratch. You will also learn how to install the panel and attach it to your home's electrical wiring system so that you can enjoy homemade energy that's free and earth friendly.
